Itaewon Class is a drama based on a popular webtoon, making it highly anticipated in its 2020 release. This drama stars Park Seojoon, Kim Da-mi, Jay-Myeon Yoo, and Ahn Bo-Hyun. Full of emotional depth and multi-layered characters, this show was a fan favorite. You can catch it on Netflix.

The first episode opens with a young woman in what appears to be a therapy session. The woman shares how life is stringing her along and success feels out of reach. She laughs about how her boss told her she should just die if she is that tired of life. We then pan out to a narration from this woman, known as Yi-seo, commenting on Itaewon as the place where her story was written.

The show then cuts away to 15 years earlier, where we are introduced to Yi-seo’s boss, Park Saeroyi. At this time, he is in high school. Saeroyi isn’t the perfect student, as this scene opens with him being disciplined. Later, a classmate hears that he is transferring schools and she offers him chocolates, which he turns down.

The following scene shows Saeroyi getting off of a bus in Pajin City. A young woman is seen talking rudely to an old homeless man. Park Saeroyi catches up to her and tries to make her apologize. She blows him off and refuses. Saeroyi looks at her, baffled, and continues his day.

Saeroyi tries out for the police qualification exam. He limps around the track on a bad knee, but pushes through the pain. This shows not only viewers his determination but also the judges. He impresses them with his grit. He is picked up from the exam by his father and they drive to the Pajin Orphanage, where his father, Mr.Park, volunteers.

When they arrive, Saeroyi sees a familiar face. The young woman who was rude to the homeless man is at the orphanage. Her name is Soo-ah and Mr.Park is a good friend to her. Saeroyi feels awkward and keeps his distance.

The following day when Saeroyi goes to his new school, he encounters Soo-ah again in his class. In his class is also a bully, named Geun-won. Saeroyi watches angrily as the bully pours milk over a classmate’s head. He wants to help the victim, but Soo-ah warns Saeroyi to hold back. Turns out Geun-won is Chairman Jang’s son--the CEO of Mr.Park’s workplace. Incredibly, even the teacher turns a blind eye to him because of his family’s status.

Saeroyi, however, refuses to allow the injustice to happen. He has warned Geun-won to let the classmate go, and upon his refusal, Saeroyi punches him. Both fathers are called to the principal’s office to deal with the incident.

With a gun pointed directly at Cho Cheol-gang, Captain Ri Jeong-hyeok slowly walks towards him. The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has surrounded the building and yells at them to put down their weapons. Both men are covered in red lasers from the NIS guns. Earlier that day, Cheol-gang received word from the Military Directory that he must kill Captain Ri or don't bother returning to North Korea. Cheol-gang's only goal at the moment was to take Jeong-hyeok down with him. He grabs a gun from his waistband and turns to shoot Jeong-hyeok in an attempt at a murder suicide. However, Jeong-hyeok drops to the floor and rolls out of the way to dodge the bullets. Cheol-gang gets shot repeatedly by the NIS and falls to the ground. Even as he was dying, he mocks Jeong-hyeok that he can't ever go back or his parents will be executed. His final words were that the two of them are in the same boat, they have no where to go and his father probably wants him to die here. He reaches for Jeong-hyeok telling him to leave together before dying.

Back in the military town in North Korea, two men tried to lure Jeong Man-bok's wife and son into their car by impersonating State Security Department officials. This was Cheol-gang's revenge for Man-bok defying his orders. Luckily, the women of the town were smart and figured out it was trick. They chase the men out of their town and watch over the woman and child.

The NIS storm through the hospital after Yoon Se-ri's second brother, Yoon Se-hyeong and his wife contacts them. The wife previously received word from Cheol-gang that all the men including Se-ri's bodyguard were from North Korea. The NIS grabbed everyone from the rescue team for questioning. Se-ri pulls out the needle from her arm and jumps out of her bed to stop them. She cries while trying to explain that the men didn't do anything wrong and to let her go with them. The NIS let her know that she'll be brought in for questioning once the doctor allows her to be discharged. Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su yells at her to listen to her doctor by resting and to remember to take her medication.

Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su, First Lieutenant Park Kwang-beom, Private First Class Geum Eun-dong, Staff Sergeant Kim Ju-meok, and Jeong Man-bok all arrive at the NIS building. They've only heard of the horrible things that go on during torture and try to keep brave faces throughout their time there. They go through a series of tests and get hooked up to a machine that seems like an electrical torture device. Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su tells the NIS that he's not scared at all and to just kill him because he won't say a word. The man informs him that it's a lie detector machine and offers to feed him to calm his nerves. All the men gather in the high quality cafeteria as they try to figure out what trick the NIS are trying to play by treating them so nicely.

Captain Ri Jeong-hyeok was held in a separate location for questioning. The NIS tread lightly as they heard rumors that he might be the son of the Director of the General Political Bureau. If it's true, this will cause chaos in North Korea when they find out. Word gets to Captain Ri's father that his son has been arrested and Cho Cheol-gang was found dead.

Gu Seung-jun was standing outside on the balcony when he notices some men rush into the apartment building. He runs up the flights of stairs until he reaches the roof before turning around to see the assistant, Mr. Cheon that previously helped him escape. Seung-jun can't help but feel confused and shocked as the assistant aims a gun right at him. They capture him and head for the China border. Seung-jun can't help but question his friendship with Mr. Cheon and all they've been through together. Mr. Cheon gives him a look and tells him repeatedly to just shut up before taping his mouth closed.

Yoon Se-hyeong and his wife meet with their father, the chairman, to convince him to cut Se-ri out instead of trying to save her. They told him that Seung-jun will be back soon and that he'll be proof that everything they've said about Se-ri has been true. They claim that the bodyguard she's been with is a spy from North Korea and that she's been working with Seung-jun all along. The chairman kicks them out and tells them he doesn't want to speak about family matters with outsiders.

While held captive at a hotel, Mr. Cheon wakes up in the middle of the night and cuts the ropes off of Seung-jun. He signals Seung-jun to tie him up and covers his mouth with the tape. They make it seem like he escaped on his own but the men eventually go searching for him.. Seung-jun gets help from a few orphans asking for money. They surround his captors and distract them while Seung-jun hides. He gets teary remembering his past and thinking about how similar he is to these kids. He gives one of the boys a giant rolled up stack of hundred dollar bills and tells him to get some food for his siblings. It was his thanks for saving his life.

Seo Dan arrives at the apartment by town to find Seung-jun missing. She notices that his luggage was still there but there were signs of a struggle. By nighttime, Seung-jun finally picks up Seo Dan's phone call. They meet inside Jeong-hyeok's empty home. Seung-jun lets Seo Dan know that hes being chased but managed to get a plane ticket for tomorrow to leave. He asks Seo Dan to send him off at the airport to which she agrees. Seung-jun grabs her hand as he kneels and slides a beautiful ring onto her finger. It's also the ring that Seo Dan helped him pick and said it was pretty. It was the best he could do for now, but if she's still single in the future when he visits, give him a chance. They hug as he promises to live better and remember where he is going because he likes her.

The next morning Seo Dan's goes with Seung-jun to the airport. She drops him off by taxi and gets back into the car immediately to avoid having to say their goodbyes. She's wearing his ring and crying in the backseat. Seung-jun gets a phone call from someone demanding that he goes to them or they'll take this woman with them. He can hear Seo Dan struggling in the background. They give him an hour to show up to the location they texted or they'll kill her. He must decide to save himself by boarding the plane or risking his life to save Seo Dan without another chance at returning home.

Seo Dan is held in a warehouse surrounded by men. Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot gets her attention. Seung-jun comes charging in with his rifle shooting down one person at a time. He walks towards her shot by shot while someone holds a gun to her head. While making sure not to accidentally hurt Seo Dan, someone shoots him in the right shoulder. He comforts her by joking that he learned clay shooting in South Korea so she doesn't need to worry. Seung-jun gets shot a second time as he takes down the final person. They both get into an ambulance as he holds onto dear life.

The NIS look into the captain of special forces Ri Jeong-hyeok to try and determine what he's been planning. They find his viral handsome man holding the door video, him saving a baby, returning a balloon to a child, and even helping an elderly lady push her cart up a hill. Majority of the NIS watching the videos were gushing about how great he seems. However, the lead person wanted more information than just videos that could get him the Good Deed Award.

The lead NIS person interviews Jeong-hyeok to get to the bottom of why he trespassed to North Korea. Jeong-hyeok states that he did it to bring Yoon Se-ri back to his country because she's rich. His men came for the Military World Games but he involved them so now they can't go back. He wasn't able to convince Se-ri to go with him to North Korea so he had his subordinates help but they're innocent. Se-ri hears about Jeong-hyeok's claims and tells the NIS he's lying. He's been trying to help her get back home to South Korea since day one. She tells them that Cho Cheol-gang came from North Korea to kill her and that's why Jeong-hyeok came here to catch the criminal. Se-ri tells them she must send him back home safely no matter what and she'll accept the punishment for hiding him.

The NIS have to determine which story is more likely since both are completely different. They lean towards Se-ri's version because no hostage would get shot for their kidnapper. Jeong-hyeok must be lying to protect any harm from Se-ri. The five men from the rescue team also remain silent as they declare Captain Ri's response is also theirs.

A meeting is setup between Jeong-hyeok and Se-ri. He enters the room and tells the NIS person he didn't want a face-to-face interview with her. Se-ri tells him it's bound to happen since their stories are different but requests that they speak alone. They get situated in a room where there's a camera recording but just the two of them. Jeong-hyeok tries hard to avoid eye contact but Se-ri repeatedly asks him to look at her. She knows he wants to take the fall so that things won't be hard for her. He leans in and tells her that's not it. He's the son of the Director of the General Political Bureau, does she really believe that he did everything for personal reasons. He only did everything to use her because of her background. Se-ri urges him to stop lying. Jeong-hyeok admits that he wasn't untruthful the whole time since they did spend some time together and he got attached. This meeting is all he can do to respect the time they spent together. He sums everything up again stating that he came to South Korea to use a woman who accidentally fell into North Korea. He got something on her and held her hostage.

Se-ri presses that no one holding her hostage would come all the way here to protect her or get shot for her. Jeong-hyeok harshly discloses that he came to South Korea to get revenge on Cheol-gang for his brother and not to protect her so she needs to stop kidding herself. She tries to convince him again to not throw his whole life away by taking the blame. Jeong-hyeok glares at her as he states seeing her now bother him more than throwing his life away so she should leave. As she gets up to leave, she confesses that this must be very tough for him because it's really tough for her.

Se-ri walks a few steps out of the room before collapsing. The stress added to her already weak body still recovering gave out. The NIS lead asks Jeong-hyeok why he had to be so harsh. An ill person came all the way here then passed out and needed to be carried on someone's back. Jeong-hyeok looks up and runs out of the room to see Se-ri as she was being carried away. He cries and stares helplessly from a distance.

The doctor at the hospital tells her mom that the gunshot wound made her immunity level low and the severe stress caused blood poisoning. The situation isn't looking good and has a mortality rate of over 40%.

The NIS was able to fix Cheol-gang's laptop and recover his emails. They showed it to Jeong-hyeok as a reasoning to why he chose to shoot him even though he knew he'd die. The emails show that Jeong-hyeok's father is also doing fine because he told everyone his son would return in a few days. Jeong-hyeok asks how Se-ri is doing. He's updated that she's currently in the Intensive Care Unit and has sepsis as an after-effect of surgery.

Jeong-hyeok rushes to the hospital when he hears that Se-ri is in critical condition. The NIS follow him there as they keep an eye on him. He makes it to the waiting room where there's a window that looks into Se-ri's room. Jeong-hyeok stares intensely at Se-ri's lifeless body as he hopes she'll wake back up.

Han Jae-hyeon apologizes to Yoon Ji-soo for taking so long to find her. He tells her that although he understood why she had to go into hiding in the past, he did resent her for it. But their breakup was out of their control and left him feeling helpless and hurt. Ji-soo tries to protect herself by pretending not to remember the past or much about him. She claims that they just ended it back then, that's all.

Although Ji-soo acted like Jae-hyeon was only an old acquaintance, she still accepted his help to find a nearby place to spend the night. They both stayed awake in their separate rooms remembering old memories of when they were young and falling in love. Jae-hyeon knows she's lying about how she feels because she's been carrying around his handkerchief for over 20 years.

Back in 1993, there was a time when Jae-hyeon approached Ji-soo to get his handkerchief back. He told her he had gotten it as a present from his mother for getting into university but later made up an excuse to let her keep it. Ji-soo continues boldly expressing her feelings and intentions to Jae-hyeon. She asks him if he will date her if she studied diligently. He stutters a no before walking away. She gives him back the cassette tape he dropped from the day he rescued her from the smoke. The cassette tape was a recording of him practicing the guitar and singing made-up lyrics. Jae-hyeon grabs it from her and tells her to forget what's on it. Ji-soo smiles and says she's already memorized it all and likes the more human version of him on the tape. She also finds him very cute during his protests.

The next morning, they walk together back to the train station. Jae-hyeon was curious about Ji-soo's life and her husband. She cut him off and said it made her uncomfortable talking to him about these things. She tells him that she's grateful for his help yesterday with the school violence situation and the lodging. But it would be best to end their meeting as fellow parents of students at the same school. She requests to go their separate ways now that it's daylight and heads onto the train first.

Ji-soo visits her father in the nursing home. She spills her feelings to him although he's unable to fully comprehend anything she's saying. She's been so caught up in her situation, she forgot all about her gentle son throwing a chair at someone. Of all the times she pictured reuniting with Jae-hyeon, she never expected it to be when she was the most pathetic and miserable.

On top of everything, Ji-soo's ex-husband, Lee Se-hoon, contacts her about their son. He wants to know if anything is going on since his son's phone has been off for two days, but she denies there being any problems. Se-hoon shares that he makes them have conversations in person because eyes do not lie. She tells him she won't be coming to his office anymore so he needs to learn to detect lies through the phone. Se-hoon still has their wedding picture on his desk as he thinks back to the time they met.

In the Summer of 2004, Ji-soo was in prison and her attorney was Lee Se-hoon. There was a man that downplayed an accident and mocked the survivors with no remorse. She was told if she agreed to a settlement, an acquittal is possible. However, if there was intent in her actions then she could receive a prison sentence. Ji-soo admitted to acting on clear intentions and will let the whole world know what this man did.

With Ji-soo still on his mind, Jae-hyeon sends his assistant to look into her background. He can't believe that she's divorced and forfeited both child support and alimony. If that wasn't surprising enough, she only works part-time jobs here and there. Jae-hyeon has his assistant keep an eye on Ji-soo with "good intentions." He tells him that she was a junior from college and was a good person.

During a protest outside of Hyung Sung's building, Ji-soo comes across a magazine of Vice President Han Jae-hyeon. A chaebol son-in-law after marrying the owner's only child. They had a drama-like love story where the Chairman was against his daughter's love to an ordinary clerk. Surprised by the article, Ji-soo heads to LP Music Cafe for a drink. This cafe is owned by Joo Young-woo, an old college friend that she's close with.

During May of 1993, Ji-soo joined the Philosophy club with the help of Jae-hyeon's friend, Young-woo. He noticed that she liked Jae-hyeon and told her that he hangs out in the club room more than the law department. Through Young-woo, she learns Jae-hyeon's favorite pub, bookstore, and hangout spots.

Seo Kyung goes to her son's school after arguing with her husband about how he handled their son's case. She demands that the school calls a hearing regarding school violence. She reminds the school of her large donations. Jae-hyeon hears from his wife that the boy that touched her son needs to be punished.

Ji-soo receives word that the school is reopening the case. She tries to reach Seo Kyung or Jae-hyeon at their company, but couldn't make an appointment. Ji-soo is finally able to reach her son Young-min and asks him what's going on. He tells her that he doesn't care about the school and it's fine that there'll be a hearing. They just need to come up with a plan since his dad will be coming. He sits at his desk crying as he looks at his homework book that's been ripped apart.

The morning of the hearing, Seo Kyung leaves without Jae-hyeon to the school. Ji-soo arrives and goes into the office to ask for Seo Kyung's leniency on her son. She requests for any anger to be taken out on her since she's the parent that raised her son poorly. Seo Kyung stands up and tells Ji-soo to go ahead and do whatever it takes to quell her anger. Ji-soo hesitates, but kneels before her and asks for mercy. At that moment Jae-hyeon walks in and tells Ji-soo to get up. He grabs her arm and pulls her up as he angrily stares at his wife.

When My Love Blooms follows the story of two old flames that had history during their college days but haven't seen each other in over a decade.

Present-day Han Jae-hyun gets released from prison after four years. He took the fall for his father in law, the Chairman of Hyung Sung over stock manipulation and embezzlement. He was promised the title Vice Chairman once he returns but maintains his director title instead. His wife, Seo Kyung was promoted to CEO of the company instead and they have a son together. They live a lavish lifestyle with a mansion, fancy cars with drivers, and expensive designer clothes. Unfortunately, Seo Kyung has been cheating on Jae-hyun since his time in prison.

Yoon Ji-soo is a divorced mother with a love for the piano. She spends a lot of her time attending protests and keeping her friends company. She lives a humble life in a small home while her 14-year-old son, Young-min goes to a prestigious international boarding school on an academic scholarship. She's forced to attend extravagant social gatherings with wealthy school moms while pretending to fit in. Ji-soo realizes that her protesting days will have to come to an end soon because her sick father's nurse is requesting for more pay. She feels sorry for her fellow protesters and tries to attend at least once a week for now.

Back in April 1993, Yoon Ji-soo was a college student. There were massive protests by students going up against armed military. The protesters wearing masks would swing sticks to defend themselves. The police had shields and would shoot their guns into the air. Student protesters would be beaten with batons for fighting back and for throwing Molotov Cocktails (firebomb) which filled the air with smoke.

Ji-soo wasn't involved but would have to journey across the battlefield just to get to class. She happened to be walking when a large smokescreen made it hard to see or breathe. Everyone started running to escape and she gets knocked down. As she sits there unable to see or breathe, someone grabs her hand and pulls her to a safe area. He tells her to take deep breaths and wraps her injured hand with the handkerchief he was using as a mask. After helping her, he runs off before she could ask for his name.

After that incident, she couldn't help but search for her hero. She goes around trying to find out when the next protest will take place and even mistaken a few different people for him. Ji-soo eventually figures out her hero's name when he introduces himself as Law Student Han Jae-hyeon of the freshman class '91 during a speech. He was speaking about his desire for the liberation of labor and liberal democracy during the remembrance of the 13th anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.

Ji-soo gets drawn to Jae-hyeon and starts to follow him around secretly. She goes to his club room but when he sees her standing there, he closes the door in her face. She debates on throwing his handkerchief away instead of trying to return it to him.

In May 1993, Ji-soo goes to borrow the movie Love Letter. She runs into Jae-hyeon who reserved the movie first, but he ends up leaving and letting her take it. She chases after him asking him to watch it together and insisted that no one would believe her that an activist senior wanted to watch a melodramatic Japanese movie. He asks her if she understands Korean as he rejects her offer again.

Persistent Ji-soo wanders around campus looking for Jae-hyeon to repeatedly ask him to watch the movie together while holding the tape. Eventually, he gave in. Ji-soo had a habit of exercising her fingers to which Jae-hyeon told her it bothered him. After the movie, she tells him she usually practices the piano alone in the music building on Wednesdays and asks when they'll get to see each other again. He confusingly asks why they would need to meet again. She boldly smiles and responds because they'll miss each other.

Ji-soo tells him that she also wants to protest and mentions she used to be a horseback rider when she was young. Jae-hyeon tells her that he protests against rich families like hers so how would they react knowing their pampered daughter hangs around a protester. Her bus arrives and Jae-hyeon pushes her to go against her will. As the bus leaves, she shouts out the window, "I won't give up! So you should give up! I will date you, even if it's the last thing I do!" He looked around embarrassed but a smile escapes.

Current day Jae-hyeon can't help but reminisce about Ji-soo and wondering how she's doing. He'll watch the movie Love Letter or read a book she gifted him in the past. He's been trying to locate her for a long time, but can't find her no matter how hard he searches. She was forced to go into hiding at some point. His friend comforts him that Ji-soo might look fragile and delicate but she was a total warrior in college.

Young-min has been getting bullied at his school. The other students are aware that he's not from a wealthy family and is attending on an academic scholarship. One student, in particular, makes his life a living hell. One day, Young Min snaps and throws a chair at the other student. Ji-soo receives a call from the school and rushes there by train and taxi. She thinks back on the day she divorced her ex-husband, Lee Se-hoon. She rejected all monetary compensation including alimony and child support in return for just custody. She didn't want to raise her son with money from Se-hoon or his mother. He threatened to sue her for custody if anything ever happens to Young-min and he won't give up on her either as long as they have a son together.

Jae-hyeon receives a call from his wife that their son, Joon-seo had gotten injured. He drives to his son's school to find him sitting in the nurse's office. He asks his son what happened and if he's okay. His son claims that this poor kid suddenly went psycho and threw a chair at him for no reason. Jae-hyeon questions his son because a similar incident happened in the past. Joon-seo denies doing anything wrong and says the other boy is a lame, loser bastard.

While Jae-hyeon was sitting in the school office, Young-min's mother enters the room. She doesn't look up at anyone but sincerely apologizes. Jae-hyeon recognizes her voice and notices she was doing finger exercises as she spoke. He looks up at her and walks out of the room before she got a chance to see him. He tells the school that it wasn't a big issue so they don't need to open a school violence case.

Ji-soo tries to talk to Young-min, but he refuses to tell her anything. She ends up walking to the train station late at night in the snow. Jae-hyeon purposely leaves his car to walk behind her. He notices that she's saved his handkerchief all these years. He stands outside the station waiting for her to come back out knowing that they've missed the last train. He walks over and stands next to her. He tells her not to worry about the school incident as she stands there shocked to see him. They can't help but both tear up as they stare into each other's eyes again.

Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul crosses through the portal with King Lee Gon to the Kingdom of Corea. She struggles to accept that there's a parallel universe and that Captain Jo Yeong isn't the Jo Eun-sup that she's known since she was three years old. She grabs a gun and points it directly at the king. Captain Jo immediately steps in front of it and grabs hold of the gun. All of the guards draw their guns and aim right at her. King Lee Gon tells her that everything is real so don't think about pulling the trigger to test it. Captain Jo demands she lets go of the gun unless she wants to get killed. With that, she lets go and Captain Jo realizes that she's the person from the name badge His Majesty has kept all these years.

Tae-eul slowly starts to wrap her head around the situation as she meets more people in the palace. They look just like the people she knows from the Republic of Korea but is completely different. Captain Jo approaches her for fingerprints to check her identity to which she happily complied stating that she understands how he's feeling because she went through the same thing. Captain Jo asks her if she's from a parallel universe and if she was the cause of His Majesty's scar on his shoulder. Tae-eul denies knowing about the scar because they're not close enough to see each other's backs.

King Lee Gon cooks a meal and delivers it to Tae-eul. Head Court Lady Noh enters the room to inform them that a bedroom has been prepared for Tae-eul. The bedroom is the furthest away from the king's bedroom. Head Court Lady Noh escorts her to the guest bedroom she'll be using for the night. It's rare for outsiders to ever spend the night in the palace so everything must be kept secret including all conversations with the king and information regarding the palace. Head Court Lady Noh warns Tae-eul that an existence that cannot be explained will only bring chaos and harm to the king. So she must not get curious about this world and avoid contact with others.

Later that night, King Lee Gon sneaks into Tae-eul's room. He brings her some alcohol per her request from earlier. She asks to see the ID badge, but he said he'll show her the next day otherwise she might leave immediately once she's seen it. King Lee Gon lays his head on her shoulder while they sit on the floor talking. She asks him to move and if he's ever dated before. He holds her head gently as he leans in and kisses her on the lips. He asks her if the kiss proved that he dated before or if he's dating now. She stares at him quietly without moving an inch.

The next morning King Lee Gon gives Tae-eul a royal guard uniform so she can attend his packed schedule. Captain Jo unwillingly becomes the messenger between the king and Tae-eul. He passes a message to Tae-eul from the king that he's helped her escape so she can go have fun until the evening. Tae-eul passes a thank you message back to the king and asks Captain Jo for some spending money.

Things start to sink in when Tae-eul asks random pedestrian questions regarding the king. She learns that the Kingdom of Corea has an extremely high GDP due to exporting rare-earth elements and that the king is a trillionaire from owning land that contains these minerals. Some criminals previously arrested by Captain Jo tell him that Tae-eul is Luna the woman in the rabbit suit they chased back at the rowing competition. She stole their boss' money and now he's in prison because of her.

Traitor Lee Lim reaches out to a poor pregnant lady living in what he describes as hell. He sent her pictures of a pregnant lady that looks just like her living luxuriously. If she chooses, she can become the granddaughter of the founder of a large pharmaceutical company that's married to the eldest son of a rich family. He explains to her that she is the woman in the photos, just in a different world. He's been choosing people and not a single one has turned down his offer to take over the better version of themselves. All she has to do is kill the other her and she can have everything. It turns out the woman Lee Lim is trying to replace is a close acquaintance of Prime Minister Koo Seo-ryung.

In the Republic of Korea, Kang Shin-jae was hoping to hang out with Tae-eul. He sends her a text to go play pool since they have the day off. He disappointingly checks his messages ever so often hoping for a response but doesn't hear from her. While out, he runs into his psychiatrist and chats with her for a bit over beers outside of a mart. She asks him if he still has recurring nightmares but he deflects the question since this isn't a therapy session.

While running around exploring, Tae-eul searches for familiar faces. She encounters some of her police team members at the police station, but they don't recognize her. She takes the CTX train (Corea's KTX) to Seoul in hopes of finding her father or mother. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to locate either of them. She tries to buy a ticket back to Busan but is short on money. Tae-eul calls the royal guards mainline seventeen times in hopes of reaching the king. The king eventually finds out and flies his helicopter straight to Seoul to get her. As she's standing there looking up at the helicopter, Captain Jo suddenly appears right next to her. He received orders from the king to keep her alive. Captain Jo questions her identity and why she went to the police station earlier.

King Lee Gon arrives and asks Tae-eul why she traveled to Seoul and who is Ahn Bong-hui. Tae-eul realizes that Captain Jo was following her and gave him a dirty look because he should've given her some money for the train if he was there. King Lee Gon wants to know who she's looking for in his world. She explains that she thought her mother might be alive in this world even though she'd be someone else but she didn't find her. King Lee Gon understood and let her know she could've just told him. He jokingly brings up that she's been curious about a lot of things. She didn't realize that her search engine didn't clear on his phone when she was searching for things like Lee Gon's ex-girlfriend and Prime Minister Koo.

Just then, Prime Minster Koo shows up. Captain Jo guesses that she must've gotten a report that the king's helicopter landed in Seoul. With her eyes never leaving Tae-eul, she tells the king that they're meeting at an unexpected hour, in an unexpected place, with an unexpected person. He responds that she's putting him in an awkward situation. Prime Minister Koo introduces herself to Tae-eul as she reaches her hand out for a handshake.

Koo Seo-ryung, the youngest and first female prime minister of the Kingdom of Corea arrives at the palace in hopes of catching the king's absence. If she can prove that the King hasn't been in his study like they've been claiming then she'll have leverage on him. Her agenda has always been political power and marketing herself as the king's "woman" for personal gains. Court Lady Noh tries to stop her outside King Lee Gon's room but she pushes herself through.

As Prime Minister Koo barges into the King's room, she shockingly pauses as she comes face to face with King Lee Gon and Captain Jo Yeong. She admits that she came just to check if he's missing, but tests his patience by boldly stating he's now indebted to her. King Lee Gon educates her that as the King he'll never be indebted to her because his absence will be minor in the history books. Court Lady Noh mentions to King Lee Gon that it seems Prime Minister Koo has a spy in the palace.

King Lee Gon returned home just in time to attend a military funeral for the father of his superior in the army. Since all of his military colleagues will be there, it's a great chance to show he's alive and well. Unfortunately, he'll have to endure wearing a button-up and tie. The trauma from when he was choked and pierced by the flute as a child causes him to suffocate whenever anything touches his neck. The driver taking the king back to the palace notices him gasping for air while removing his tie, but Captain Jo tells him to just focus on driving for the King's safety. Captain Jo requests for King Lee Gon's cellphone to install a GPS tracker on his phone. He tells the King he was almost fired because the King "kept staying in the study." King Lee Gon smirks and tells him he's lying, but hands over his phone anyway.

Prime Minister Koo approaches Prince Buyeong (King Lee Gon's uncle) at a cafe. She questions the prince regarding the king's whereabouts. He tells her that the king doesn't come out for days and weeks whenever he begins studying mathematics. She starts asking him personal questions surrounding his family. Although Prince Buyeong was once the son of the king, four generations of his family aren't allowed to be involved in politics or hold important titles. All of his children and grandchildren must also live abroad. Although people are jealous of the royal family, isn't this quite unfair for him. Prince Buyeong clarifies that he's never thought about it and that class disparity will always exist. She wasn't amused by their conversation but lets him in on her backup plan. Just sitting there together in a public setting will make it seem like he has her back.

King Lee Gon visits his uncle, Prince Buyeong at his office with gifts. Prince Buyeong asks the king if he had fun on his travels. King Lee Gon mentions that his favorite photo is of them together with Court Lady Noh holding hands surrounded by cherry blossoms during an elementary school field trip. King Lee Gon asks the prince if he hates him. His father's illegitimate brother kills him and even tries to strangle King Lee Gon causing the prince's family to be forced to live abroad. He's curious if his father's cousin is on his side. Prince Buyeong asks how he can prove his loyalty because he couldn't kill his kids so he forbade them from coming back until the day they die. King Lee Gon tells the Prince that he trusts and truly admires him, so don't hide anything from him. The king hands Prince Buyeong traitor Lee Lim's autopsy report that he signed off in the past.

In the Republic of Korea, Detective Kang Shin-jae comes across his mother's large purse filled with money. He goes directly to the illegal gambling house with his mother and fellow detective Jang-mi (Jang Michael). When they arrive at the location, more than thirty people are placing large bets at a table. Detective Kang pleads with his mother that she needs to quit because he can't be a policeman if she's going around illegally gambling. She couldn't hear anything he was saying and was too focused on her winnings. He makes the tough decision to try to snap his mother out of her addiction by leaving her behind when more police arrive to arrest everyone.

Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul accidentally drops her name badge down the sewer. The forensics team looked into the 100,000 won bill that she confiscated from King Lee Gon and determined it is completely real even the watermark. She explains to Lieutenant Jung that although it's crazy, the proportion of noil, ink, and anti-forgery methods are all identical. Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul continues to search for traces of King Lee Gon. There are only videos of him riding Maximus to the bamboo forest but nothing else.

Traitor Lee Lim gets word from his source that the king has returned. He believes that his nephew is finally standing before the legend. During this time, King Lee Gon retrieves the Four Tiger Sword from where it was last left in the chambers his father was killed. His father once told him that only the king can become the owner of the Four Tiger Sword.

While Captain Jo was walking towards King Lee Gon, time suddenly stopped again for the second time. The king attempts to count how many seconds go by before time starts again. Captain Jo tells the king he'll call a doctor for him after hearing the crazy story about parallel worlds and time stopping. That night, the king's web-like scar appears on his shoulder again and shocks him with pain. Captain Jo thought that he was faking it, but went to call the doctor when he saw the scar. King Lee Gon took this opportunity to escape his room and cross back through the portal to the Republic of Korea.

Detective Kang Shin-jae gives Lieutenant Jung her new ID badge card. It was just issued earlier that day, November 11, 2019. Lieutenant Jung panics as she realizes her new ID badge was issued with the exact date as the one King Lee Gon found 25 years ago. Just then, she receives a phone call from the king and runs off to go meet him. She rushes to the front of her home where she sees King Lee Gon and Maximus waiting for her.

With things starting to lean further away from reality, Lieutenant Jung questions the king again about his whereabouts and why he returned. King Lee Gon tells her he needed to pay back some money he borrowed and was also wondering if she was doing alright. However, he must now leave back to his world since he snuck out this time. She asks him if he has a house and to describe her picture on the ID card he has. When she took the new ID picture she had to change her outfit last minute so there's no way the two cards would match. King Lee Gon describes the photo exactly with her wearing a navy jacket and hair tied up. He asks her if she'd like to see for herself by coming with him back to the Kingdom of Corea in his world. King Lee Gon lifts her onto Maximus as they ride back to the bamboo forest and enter through the portal. Once they arrive on the other side, Captain Jo and the royal guards are standing there waiting for him.

King Lee Gon convinces Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul that there's a portal in the bamboo forest that leads back to his world. They get to the forest, but there's nothing there except for trees. He tells her it's just as he expected, the portal isn't opening because he came empty-handed. She mentioned that the DNA results get back tomorrow so they'll know who he is anyway. However, he informs her that he doesn't have any family alive with similar DNA since they passed away when he was young.

Detective Kang Shin-jae reminisces about the time he first met Jung Tae-eul. They were in high school and he joined her father's Taekwondo school. Eventually, he started instructing the students, but the kids disliked his tough approach and would go home crying. Jung Tae-eul's father gave him a police exam prep book in hopes that he'll stay on the right path in life. Just not as an instructor for kids at his school. While thinking about old times, he walks pass Maximus, King Lee Gon's white horse. He notices that the emblem on the harness matches a clue in their murder investigation.

King Lee Gon can't help but spend time with Jo Eun-sup despite Lieutenant Jung's attempt at interfering. He appoints him as Chief of the Royal Guards as the Unbreakable Sword of this world. Eun-sup calls him crazy and continues on his merry way. Being around Eun-sup really makes him miss his friend Captain Jo Yeong and Court Lady Noh who helped raise him.

Back in Corea, the word is starting to get out that the King is either missing or ill. The new employee at the Royal Public Affairs office, Myeong Seung-a, comes up with a plan to cloud the attention of the people. She goes through Captain Jo Yeong's phone for a good photo to use for a social media account she's planning to make for him. The people went crazy over the bromance of the Gon Jo couple.

Court Lady Noh reaches out to Captain Jo regarding the lady on the badge that the King keeps. He lets her know that he's already investigated her three years ago under His Majesty's orders, but found nothing. She doesn't exist in any database and the issue date is strange considering it was issued 2019 25 years ago.

Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul receives the DNA test results and there are no matches in any database. On top of that, Maximus is a rare horse breed that you can't find in Korea. She contacts King Lee Gon to go for chicken and beer before trying to wrap her head around the situation. While waiting for her to settle down, he learns about the art of mixing soju and beer. Although she doesn't believe that there's a parallel world, she can't help but ask him questions about it. Things don't add up no matter how she sees it.

Captain Jo Yeong remembers talking to King Lee Gon about Prince Buyeong performing the autopsy on the body they found in the past. It was determined that the fingerprints and DNA all matched with traitor Lee Lim. Although everything matched, King Lee Gon felt like it wasn't actually the traitor Lee Lim but a lookalike. The body must have been used by Lee Lim as a symbol that he's dead. The big question is what is this body that has identical DNA as Lee Lim and what was added to the traitor after it died. It seems that something was added to His Majesty.

King Lee Gon started having strange side effects while he was in the Republic of Korea. A large portion of his shoulder burned up one-night causing immense pain with a web-like marking. On a random day, everything around him froze when he was standing there talking to Lieutenant Jung. She didn't seem to notice anything although time had stopped.

Somehow Lee Lim has been getting updates about the King's actions throughout the years. He goes into a bookstore where his followers would drop by daily. He goes and meets with a large army of men that still kneels before him and calls him "Your Highness."

Lieutenant Jung and Detective Kang are out in the field working on a case. Suddenly, a group of men led by one of Detective Kang's old classmate appears. He sent the man to jail three years ago and now he's back for revenge. King Lee Gon appears to spectate the fight. As the two cops fight off about ten men, the boss approaches them with a knife. At that moment, King Lee Gon steps in to help. He knocks everyone out using his horsewhip and the three of them grab food after.

King Lee Gon goes to the bamboo forest with the flute. This time the portal opens up and he confirms that the flute allows the ability to go back and forth between the two worlds. King Lee Gon lets Lieutenant Jung know that he'll be leaving now. He's left the palace empty for too long and should return to his throne. While going to get Maximus, Detective Kang asks him what is the logo on his horse's harness. King Lee Gon tells him he must've been mistaken because that logo is used in a country in another world. After his goodbyes, King Lee Gon and Maximus ride back through the bamboo forest to enter the portal and get back to Corea.

Ri Jeong-hyeok gets Yoon Se-ri to the hospital after she was shot by Cho Cheol-gang. The gunshot caused tension pneumothorax and hemothorax, so a chest tube insertion was needed before they can remove the bullet. Jeong-hyeok stayed in the background at all times as Se-ri's family and assistants visited. He wasn't able to enter her room but caught glimpses of her lying there whenever someone opened the door to leave.

The police questioned Jeong-hyeok regarding the incident with Se-ri. He asks them if another person shot arrived at the hospital or if they searched nearby abandoned medical facilities for the man. The middleman Mr. Oh hid Cheol-gang in an abandoned medical center where a house call doctor removed the bullet for him. He saved Cheol-gang to make sure he gets the remainder of his money owed.

Se-ri's second brother Yoon Se-hyeong and his wife continue with their evil plan to cover things up. They push to fire Jeong-hyeok since he was at the scene of the crime. They tell Se-ri's assistant to fire him since he looks suspicious and they can't trust him. They want to hire their bodyguard for her. With that, Jeong-hyeok is forced to stay outside of the hospital now.

Se-ri opens her eyes as the oldest brother Yoon Se-jun and his wife make a huge fuss that she's awake. However, Se-hyeong and his wife are looking extremely uncomfortable at the sight of her being okay. Jeong-hyeok receives a call from Se-ri asking how he could leave without her permission and to come back now. He runs back into her room as they both look at each other crying. He lectures her for having no fear and how could she jump in front of a bullet like that. She tells him that he's done the same for her when it came to jumping in front of bullets. Instead of staying mad, he goes into her held open arms for a hug.

The rest of the rescue team men arrive as they try to run to hug her. Captain Ri stops them in their tracks and only allowed them to give her handshakes. He claims her condition isn't well so she can't hug, although they just saw him hugging her a moment ago. Oddly, they knew Se-ri was awake without Captain Ri telling them.

Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su, First Lieutenant Park Kwang-beom, Private First Class Geum Eun-dong, Staff Sergeant Kim Ju-meok, and Jeong Man-bok were sitting outside of the hospital waiting for Se-ri to wake up. Man-bok decided to tap Se-ri's room while she was unconscious in case something bad happened to her. He snuck his way into the VIP room by pretending to be a custodian and attached the device under her bed. He let the other men know so they wouldn't be so worried. They've been listening in on all of the doctor's updates alongside Se-hyeong and his wife's conversations. Man-bok handed over a tape recording he felt she should hear.

Se-ri listens to the recording after everyone leaves. It was her mother talking about the day she first met Se-ri when she was only a month old. Although Se-ri loved her unconditionally, she's never accepted the love. She mentions the day she woke young Se-ri up in the middle of the night to go watch the sunrise with just the two of them. Se-ri was so excited to go on a trip with just the two of them for the first time. But her mother just abandons her daughter and she passes out waiting alone. She came back after realizing what she had done, but Se-ri wasn't there anymore. She blamed Se-ri for her life being hell and tormented herself by hating someone that loved her so much. She begs Se-ri to come back one more time and she'll tell her she's sorry. Se-ri cries clenching onto the recorder as she listens to her mother's pleas. A teary Jeong-hyeok stands outside the room door as he hears everything.

Se-hyeong tries to enter Se-ri's hospital room but gets stopped by Jeong-hyeok. He tells his bodyguards to get rid of him. Jeong-hyeok beats up the two guards and grabs Se-hyeong as he tries to push through. He tells Se-hyeong that her family has been prohibited from entering the room as an order from Se-ri.

Seo Dan and Gu Seung-jun meet at night on a bridge where she reminds him that the State Security Department is looking for him. However, he's more concerned about her and how she's feeling. He tells her that he's attractive regardless of her hairstyle, even without makeup she's a goddess, and when she saved him she was so charismatic. He confesses that she drives him crazy when she cries and makes him want to be a better man. She pulls him in for a kiss and he returns the favor.

In North Korea, Jeong-hyeok's father, Director of the General Political Bureau, received word that none of the six men got onto the national track team bus. He has to come up with a plan since the Military Director seems to be connected to Cheol-gang. Cheol-gang sends the Military Director information regarding Ri Jeong-hyeok following him to South Korea. There's evidence and he'll be back with Yoon Se-ri soon so that the Military Director can takeover Director Ri's position.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has been following leads on Se-ri's case. They're connecting that the two men that entered through the tunnel at the cave might be related to the shooting. They go and speak to Se-ri's father about the attempted kidnapping that took place in her underground parking garage. They found it odd that Se-ri would request for all the footage to be deleted. However, they were able to find some dashcams that caught the man from that night. They cross-checked the photos with North Korea's Investigation and Intelligence squads and discovered it was the guy who infiltrated through the tunnel. The photo was of Cheol-gang.

Se-ri's mother requests to have coffee with Jeong-hyeok. The other five members of the rescue team listen in on their conversation from behind a wall. They're expecting her to be difficult and like mothers from dramas where they throw water at people's faces or give them money to disappear. Instead, she wants Jeong-hyeok to stay by Se-ri's side since she can't be in her corner. She gives him her business card in case they need her help with anything. Jeong-hyeok tells her that Se-ri would also like it if she's there for her as well.

Se-ri's father, Chairman Yoon, and a NIS member visits her at the hospital to talk about the case. They want to know if she knows the culprit. She asks if knowing the culprit would help catch him. Se-ri contacts the rest of her family to join them in her hospital room. She wanted to share a recording that will solve the shooting incident.

The recording is of Se-hyeong and his wife talking while Se-ri was still unconscious. They talk about Cho Cheol-gang's involvement and how they're worried she might wake up again. They try to ease each other's worries by mentioning it's all untraceable since they paid him in cash and their call histories are clean. There's no evidence.

Chairman Yoon disowns his son and removes him from anything Queens Group related. Se-hyeong tries to blame everything on his wife. Then he gets ridiculous and blames his father for not letting him take over the company sooner. Their mother stands up and slaps him. The NIS and police are working together to solve this case and asks for Se-hyeong and his wife's cooperation.

The Military Director goes to the Director of the General Political Bureau's home to show him photos of Jeong-hyeok. He asks if he knew his son was in Seoul and threatens him with the information. The Military Director says he'll let everything go if Director Ri agrees to retire. Director Ri smiles as he responds that he sent his son to South Korea. It was all a part of the plan to bring a wealthy woman to North Korea to help the economic blockade. This was all a classified operation at the Reconnaissance General Bureau. Director Ri tells the Military Director that Captain Ri will be returning in a week and he can question him more then.

Se-hyeong's wife refuses to quit and finds out from Cheol-gang that Jeong-hyeok is from North Korea. She goes and reports this information to the NIS person. As a backup plan, Cheol-gang sends some men to kidnap Man-bok's son to use as leverage against him. They claimed to be from Pyongyang where Man-bok was in a car accident.

Captain Ri informs the rescue team that he'll be going somewhere so they need to stay by Se-ri's side no matter what happens. If he's late, they need to return to North Korea to their families without him. The NIS tracks Captain Ri's taxi as they prepare for a possible shootout amongst North Korean's elite soldiers. Their goal is to arrest them, but if they can't then killing them during combat is allowed.

Jeong-hyeok notices the NIS cars tailing him, but continues with his plan anyway. He arrives at the address he was given and sees Mr. Oh driving away when he spots him. Jeong-hyeok enters the building to find Cheol-gang alone. With a gun aimed at Cheol-gang, he tells him that he's not the only one willing to risk it all. Suddenly, blinding lights brighten up the room as a microphone tells them to drop their weapons. Cheol-gang tells him the universe is finally on his side because someone like Jeong-hyeok would've never been able to shoot him. With red lasers from guns covering them, Jeong-hyeok hesitates on his next move. Despite the dangerous situation they're in, Cheol-gang reaches for his gun and turns to shoot Jeong-hyeok.

We last left off with King Lee Gon entering into a parallel universe and meeting his savior Lieutenant Jung Tae-eul. He goes and happily hugs her, glad that she existed somewhere even if it's a different universe. She pushes him off of her calling his story about a different universe bullshit. She asks him for his ID, but he tells her he doesn't have one. However, he informs her that he is the King of Corea and crossed the dimension with lightning and thunder while chasing a suspicious person. Lieutenant Jung arrests him and his white horse Maximus.

Once they get to the police station, Lieutenant Jung checks all of his items including his watch and wallet. She sees 100 thousand won bills that don't exist and confiscates them in case they're involved in crimes or fraud. Since he's unwilling to cooperate, she does a fingerprint scan on him and places him in the holding cell while they wait for the results. While in the holding cell, he sees a Social Service worker that looks exactly like Captain Jo Yeong except his name was Jo Eun-sup. King Lee Gon calls for Yeong thinking it was him, but soon realized it wasn't. Eun-sup is chatty and animated, opposite from the person he knows.

The results come back for King Lee Gon's fingerprints and he's not in the system. Lieutenant Jung refuses to give up so she forces a swab test on him. She pretended to listen to his whole story about being a King and parallel universes just to catch him off guard. She lets him go but asks for contact information for when the DNA results come back. He tells her that he'll be staying at a five-star hotel by her. King Lee Gon pulls a button off his coat and asks her where the nearest jewelry store was located. She accompanies him saying that if those buttons are diamonds then she must be Princess Diana. Sure enough, the diamond buttons are flawless and he sells them to pay for his hotel room and shopping. Lieutenant Jung is confused and can't help but wonder if they're stolen.

Eun-sup receives a collect call from King Lee Gon. After 13 attempts he agrees to meet with him and they go shopping before heading back to his suite. Eun-sup wanted to know why he brought him there but didn't mind after he was told half the shopping bags were for him. King Lee Gon asks him for a photo of him as a child, so he can see if this was truly a parallel world. Eun-sup as a child looked just like Captain Jo Yeong when he was young, also their fathers matched too.

While they were catching up, Lieutenant Jung sends Eun-sup threatening texts after finding Maximus, the seventh-grade official white horse in her yard. Neighbors ask her who the owner is because only rich people have such nice horses. She heads straight to the hotel he's staying at and leaves a note for King Lee Gon that she's going to sell his horse in ten minutes. He meets her in the lobby asking if she can lend just a bit of her lawn until he goes back to his world. She agrees to it only because animals are innocent, but threatens to sell his horse if he gets into any trouble.

After calling her nonstop all day with various phones, she finds him at the library and they go get fried chicken for dinner. He spent his day studying the history of the Republic of Korea and going to a history museum. King Lee Gon tells Lieutenant Jung that he usually doesn't eat anything without someone testing it first because he could be poisoned anytime. However, if he dies here, his last words are to thank her for everything because she existed somewhere he was less lonely for 25 years.

King Lee Gon remembers back to the night his father was killed by his uncle. He heard the sound of the Manpasikjeok flute loudly and followed it to the location of the massacre. The Court Lady that has always been by his side had hidden half of the flute in a whip she always carries. She hid it to one day give back to King Lee Gon when he was ready despite her fears. The strange thing was that the flute that's silent made a sound and the badge owner that cannot be identified exists. The King and Court Lady both agreed to secrecy.

In the universe of Corea, Captain Jo Yeong is working nonstop to find King Lee Gon. He contacts the police regarding the suspect wearing the rabbit hoodie. They inform him that they don't know the woman's face, but other criminals call her Luna. She's being monitored for various crimes like theft and assault.

Captain Jo Yeong reaches out to Myeong Seung-a regarding photos that she took at the Rowing Cup competition. He was looking to possibly spot something that could lead him in the right direction to find King Lee Gon. She happily hands her the camera, completely starstruck. However, embarrassment quickly takes over as she realizes a majority of the pictures were closeups of Captain Jo Yeong. He notices but leaves his email on a napkin so she can send the photos to him anyway in case there's something. As his biggest fangirl, she holds the napkin up to her face smiling from ear to ear. She's also currently in the final round of interviews for a job at the Royal Public Affairs Office.

In the Republic of Korea, King Lee Gon has officially run out of diamond buttons to sell. He's struggling to afford a milk tea at this point. While sitting next to Maximus in Lieutenant Jung's yard, he overhears her cop partner Kang Shin-jae calling her to come down. King Lee Gon questions the man about his relationship with Lieutenant Jung although it's their first time meeting. Shin-jae takes a picture of him as a mugshot just in case and tells him next time he won't be so kind.

Lieutenant Jung remembers back to April 2006 when her father's Taekwondo school was struggling to collect fees. She comes up with a "brilliant idea" to try and get high school male students to sign up for the class by looking pretty in her Taekwondo uniform. She sat on her front windowsill where students walked past on their way home from school. Between flipping her hair nonstop and trying to look cute, no one seemed to pay much attention. However, her plan ended up working on one boy, Kang Shin-jae, who signed up for class. They've been close friends ever since.

Lieutenant Jung walks past King Lee Gon to go meet Shin-jae and Eun-sup for dinner. However, she feels guilty and walks back to ask King Lee Gon if he's just going to stand out there all night. He tells her it upsets him that she's the only person he knows in this world and that she would leave him like that. She rubs her face in disbelief as she asks him how he knows her because she doesn't know him. He tells her he acquired her ID card 25 years ago so the person he's looking for is somehow related to her. She tells him that 25 years ago she was only 5 years old so it couldn't have been her. The ID card he obtained back then was issued on November 11, 2019, for some reason, and he's waited for this day to come. She tells him to stop his delusions and go back to his family because they must be worried. King Lee Gon responds that he is single and will give her the position where she'll be forced to know him. He's decided to stay in this world and make her his Queen.

There was a national treasure called Manpasikjeok, a bamboo flute named by King Sinmun during his reign in the Silla Dynasty. When the flute is played, enemies would retreat, diseases would be cured, rain would fall during droughts, rainy seasons would end, the wind would stop, and strong waves would subside. The Manpasikjeok is revealed only once every 20 years to wish peace upon the world.

The story starts in the Kingdom of Corea in the winter of 1994. King Lee-ho was betrayed by some of his guards that chose to support his illegitimate half brother, Prince Imperial Geum Lee-lim (Lee Gon's uncle). They stormed the King's palace in Cheonjongo and shot all the guards standing in their way. Prince Lee-lim approaches his younger brother and stabs him with the Four Tigers sword. Walking past the King's dying body, he gets hold of the flute.

Just then, a young boy enters the chambers with his bare feet covered in blood. He sees his father lying on the floor and runs over to him crying. He searches for the wound to try to put pressure on it and he calls for his father to wake up. His uncle tells him it's too bad that the Crown Prince is an orphan now. The boy struggles using all of his power to pick up the heavy sword. He manages to swing the sword downward and slice the flute in half. The Crown Prince tries to order the Royal Guards to arrest the traitor Lee-lim and deprive Prince Imperial Geum of his royal status for treason. All the men in the room were traitors and no one was there to follow his orders.

Lee-lim chokes the Crown Prince and presses the broken flute against his throat. He tells the boy that he's waited for this moment his whole life so how dare a useless kid get in his way. He shares that he quietly endured his father and brother's foolishness while gathering people over the years to assist him in his plan. Suddenly, the glass ceiling shatters and a masked shooter appears. The shooter takes out a majority of the traitors and during the commotion, Lee-lim drops one of the two flute pieces. With the Royal Guards on their way, he takes off leaving it behind. The masked shooter walks up to the Crown Prince to check his pulse before disappearing. The Crown Prince managed to hide one of the flute pieces under himself and grabs the masked shooters badge before blacking out.

The next day the country goes into mourning for the Royal Family as word gets out that Prince Imperial Geum is wanted for murder and treason after killing his brother King Lee-ho. The Crown Prince Lee Gon gets crowned as the new King since he's the first in line to the throne.

Lee-lim, now stripped of his title and in hiding, heads to the forest with his half of the flute. A large bright portal opens up to a parallel universe. Before he knows it, he's in the Republic of Korea in the winter of 1994. He looks the same, wearing the same clothes, but all the news articles don't match his world. Someone bumps into him and they immediately recognize each other. The man looks just like his dead half brother King Lee-ho, but in normal clothes. Lee-lim goes to meet the other version of himself and sees that he's a paraplegic in this universe. He ends up killing his brother again, this version of himself, and his nephew in this world.

During this time in Corea, the young King is forced to go through formalities as he mourns his father's death in the public eye. There's a little goofy boy that constantly tries to befriend the new King. The palace staff has a plan to let them constantly come in contact so King Lee Gon will have someone close. When the King is studying the little boy would enter the room and bother him with questions. The King would ask him how he got in and tell him to get out. The boy answers that their fathers were friends.

On the final night of the King's first duty of mourning, he finally shows some emotion by crying and claiming he misses his father. The little boy sees him crying and joins which makes him stop. The King tells the boy to stop crying and gives him the title Unbreakable Sword. He asks for the boy's real name which is Jo Yeong and from that day onward they were inseparable.

In the Royal Hospital in Corea, they discovered Lee-lim's body by the shore in what seems like a suicide incident. To keep things in order, they make a false statement to protect the young King and Royal Court by saying Lee-lim was killed by the Royal Guards. Without knowing it, the body they discovered was the dead paraplegic Lee-lim from the Republic of Korea universe.

We jump to the present-day Kingdom of Corea, Busan Main Palace in the Fall of 2019. King Lee Gon is now a full-grown adult being bothered by everyone about marriage. Jo Yeong, The Unbreakable Sword, is the Captain of the Royal Guards. Ironically, King Lee Gon jokes around a lot now, while Jo Yeong is extremely serious.

While the King was taking part in the Rowing Cup with his Navy Academy 88th class, he spots a person running in a rabbit hoodie. He chases the rabbit running barefoot through the streets. Captain Jo catches up to him holding shoes and asking why he ran off by himself. He claims to have seen the White Rabbit with the clock referencing Alice in Wonderland. Captain Jo doesn't understand so the King tells him he needs some fairytales in his life.

Back at the palace, Captain Jo requests that the King wear a bulletproof vest at all times. The King jokingly tells him that he can just wear two, enough for the both of them. Captain Jo states that the King is going to get him in trouble if he doesn't listen. The King asks him who's going to punish him if he's the captain. Captain Jo responds with his sense of duty. The King leans into him and smiles asking if he's having fun or would like to grab a glass of beer. Captain Jo deflects and wants to know why the King is so set on catching the culprit himself. The King explains that he's just trying to find his savior from 25 years ago. He doesn't understand why she just disappeared and never came forward.

King Lee Gon kept his saviors badge all these years. The badge belongs to Lieutenant Jeong Tae-eul from Seoul Metropolitan Police Station with her picture and birthdate. He was looking at it when he realized that now he's older than she was back then.

While feeding his white horse Maximus, the King spots the person in the rabbit hoodie again. He rides his horse and chases the rabbit alone. Captain Jo hops on a horse and tries to catch up to him. King Lee Gon notices something strange in the forest and Maximus starts to act up a bit. He sees the two pillars with the portal opening and decides to go through it. The other half of the flute that he carries around with him must have activated it.

In the Republic of Korea during the Fall of 2019, the Violent Crimes Division is overworked, underpaid, and catching all the bad guys. Lieutenant Jeong Tae-eul was in her car when she sees a white horse with a weirdo riding it walk past her. She uses the microphone to tell the man to park his horse immediately. All of the people around him are gushing over his handsome looks and assuming he must be filming a movie since he's on a horse. Lieutenant Jeong Tae-eul approaches the man on foot and as King Lee Gon turns to look at her, he can't help but stare. She tells him that he's causing traffic violations and asks him to get down from the horse. She realizes he's just staring at her and thinks it's because she forgot to show her badge. She puts her badge on as he gets off Maximus to walk towards her. He lifts her badge from around her neck to confirm her identity. He claims to have finally met her as he wraps his arms around her for a hug.

Yoon Se-ri confesses to Ri Jeong-hyeok that she was crying so much thinking he had left. He asks her if she plans to cry like that when he leaves because he doesn't want her crying alone. She announces that she's been vaccinated and won't cry again when he leaves. Se-ri tells him that she accidentally overheard his conversation with Jeong Man-bok so he should return to North Korea to prevent making it hard for his father. She wants him to believe in her cause she will use her status, people, and money to survive.

The rescue team men are back inside feeling sad for Se-ri. They realized that this was the first time they have ever seen her cry. Despite all her hardships in North Korea, they've never seen her shed a single tear. Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su was feeling so flustered he even wished Captain Ri and Se-ri would just run away together.

Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok go back inside to join everyone in celebrating her birthday. They light the candles and sing her the North Korean birthday song. She instructs everyone to close their eyes to make a wish and they all blow out the candles together.

Later that night, Jeong-hyeok goes to Se-ri's room to give her a present. He's extremely nervous and tells her it has no meaning so she can pawn it if she doesn't like it. She pries his hand open to discover a ring. He got them couples' rings and slid her ring onto her ring finger. She tells him that she won't take it off for the rest of her life and she'll always remember him no matter what happens.

Seo Dan's mother shows up at their place near the town looking for her daughter. Gu Seung-jun opens the door and tries to charm her into not scolding her daughter too much. She goes into the room and hits Seo Dan awake before Seung-jun interrupts to ask them to have a meal. Her mother questions him about his family background and intentions. He explains that he has a one-sided crush on Seo Dan regardless of her being engaged to a man. Her confidence and grace that have been passed down from her mother make her strong. Seo Dan sits there listening quietly. Seo Dan's mother tells her daughter that she likes Seung-jun.

Jeong-hyeok corners the middleman Manager Oh (broker). He grabs him by the throat for sending men to attack him instead of showing up. He apologizes explaining that he helps connect people but is not loyal. While he was taking care of business, Se-ri gives the rescue team her black card to spend on anything they want that they can bring back to North Korea. She calls them fashion terrorists and suggests buying new clothes. They should buy everything they want to eat while they're out.

The second brother, Yoon Se-hyeong's wife takes a second attempt at taking over Se-ri's Choice. She holds a meeting and tries to tell the board members that Se-ri has faults they need to know about. Just then, her mother enters the meeting. She calls out her daughter-in-law for wanting to backstab Se-ri as soon as she comes back alive. The daughter-in-law responds that she's just trying to make Se-hyeong successful, so she'll be sad if she's made to look like a bitch. The mother responds that no mother would sacrifice her daughter to make her son successful. She shares that they're fully aware that she and Se-hyeong kept Se-ri from returning home.

Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok decide to play hooky for the day. They go to the movies, share laughter in the car, and take a nice walk over a tall bridge. Jeong-hyeok tells a story of a time he played hooky once before when he was in school. He went to a tall bridge to take pictures but saw someone that was thinking about jumping off. She was a woman that was his type. He continues the story that he asked her to take a picture for him. Se-ri cuts him off pouting that he doesn't need to give details. He adds that the woman asked him if she must take it at such a scary place. With trembling hands, she took the camera. The story sounds familiar as Se-ri asks him where this took place. He tells her Switzerland on the Sigriswil Panorama Bridge. The woman was very memorable to him and he always wondered how she was doing after that day because she was his type.

Jeong-hyeok hands Se-ri her audio recorder that happened to capture their interaction from that day in Switzerland. He was there with Seo Dan and Se-ri comments to herself that he could do better. Se-ri wonders how many times they've met throughout their lifetime. She was extremely happy hearing that story and knows that their hooky day will forever be cherished as one of the best moments in her life.

Se-ri and all the guys meet at a chicken and beer restaurant. They play drinking games and spend the night cheering for sports. Jeong Man-bok happens to step out for a cigarette when Cho Cheol-gang approaches him. He threatens his son's life and expects him to switch sides if he wants his family safe. Cheol-gang puts doubt in his mind saying that Captain Ri's father will just abandon him once they get back anyway, no one will protect him.

Man-bok sends a recording of Jeong-hyeok's plans to Cheol-gang. Knowing that the rescue team men will head to the bus to go home first and Jeong-hyeok plans to join them after, Cheol-gang sets a trap. He has Man-bok update him on their group's movement.

At the Yoon household, Se-ri's father is yelling at the second brother, Yoon Se-hyeong. He tells his son that he wasn't chosen as the new heir because he's competent, it's because he's the most incompetent. A total doormat to his wife and easily conned. He thought that if his son became aware of everything he lacked, he would ask for help regarding the family business. With that said, he'll be getting demoted soon. Of course, Se-hyeong's wife appears in time to try to speak on her husband's behalf. She shows the father pictures of Se-ri and Gu Seung-jun claiming they were hiding together in North Korea.

Se-hyeong calls Se-ri to come visit their parents since they're not doing well all because of her. Sitting next to him is Cheol-gang. Se-hyeong gives him the road map Se-ri takes and tells him that he doesn't care what happens to her as long as she's gone.

Mr. Oh schedules a meeting with Jeong-hyeok in a warehouse. Cheol-gang is there with henchman waiting for his arrival. As Jeong-hyeok enters the warehouse, there are more than twenty men ready to kill him. Cheol-gang tells him he knew he'd show up because he wasn't a coward that would run back to North Korea knowing he was still here. Jeong-hyeok charges the men to fight them head-on. He bulldozed through as many as he could while taking hits from pipes and bats.

On Se-ri's way to her parent's house, random construction workers put up roadblocks to stop other cars from taking that route. Three cars appear behind her and start trying to collide into her. After blocking her car, all the doors open up and more than ten men charge her car by foot with weapons. The rescue team come flying out of her car to fight the attackers. Being from the special forces they easily fight the attackers off while having lighthearted conversations with each other. They tell Se-ri that it's cold outside so she should wait in the car for a bit longer. Master Sergeant Pyo even checks on the youngest, Private First Class Geum Eun-dong to make sure he doesn't stunt his growth by overdoing it. Man-bok joins in the spirit by jumping onto one of the enemies backs to help out.

The night before, Jeong-hyeok saw Man-bok crying and asked him if he had something to tell him. This time, he made the right choice by telling him what's on his mind. He tells Jeong-hyeok that Cheol-gang approached him. They come up with a plan to create a recording of a fake plan to send Cheol-gang and figure out that Se-ri's brother Se-hyeong must be working with him.

Just in time to help out Captain Ri Jeong-hyeok, Se-ri and the rescue team arrive at the warehouse. A group of men run-up to her car to confirm that they won't need to pay rent for the next year in her building. She agrees to no rent for two years if they help out. All the gathered men run through the warehouse doors to team up with Captain Ri as he goes against Cheol-gang. Cheol-gang pulls out a gun to shoot Man-bok for betraying him. Captain Ri jumps forward to kick the gun from Cheol-gang and Master Sergeant Pyo tackles Man-bok out of the way.

This was the signal to start the full-on rumble. There are weapons swinging and limbs flying around everywhere. Captain Ri picks up the gun to aim it at Cheol-gang as he holds Man-bok at knifepoint. He grabs Man-bok and pulls him outside into the night as he beats him. Captain Ri follows them outside to try and find them.

Se-ri is sitting in her car as she witnesses everything happening outside. Captain Ri is walking towards the direction of where Cheol-gang is waiting for him with a gun aimed. Se-ri does the only thing she could think of, she drives in between the bullet fired and Captain Ri. As the bullet shatters her car window and hits her, Captain Ri lands a shot on Cheol-gang. Man-bok picks up the gun Cheol-gang dropped and closes his eyes as he pulls the trigger aiming at the man that's been controlling his life. Unfortunately, he misses and Cheol-gang escapes.

Jeong-hyeok gets to Se-ri's car and opens the driver's door to check on her. She falls out of the car into his arms unconscious as he holds onto her closely. He calls for her and tries to shake her awake as he sees the blood on her side. He cries in agony as she lies there lifeless in the cold. The rescue team runs outside to see Se-ri lying there as they also beg out loud for someone to help.

Yoon Se-ri was hiding in the security booth in the parking garage as Cho Cheol-gang was approaching. Before he could reach it, he hears a phone ringing and goes to locate the phone. That's when he spoke to Jeong-hyeok and it gave Se-ri time to move to a new hiding spot. By the time Cheol-gang gets back to check the booth, Se-ri already moved to the light control panel. Knowing that Jeong-hyeok's life was in danger with a gun aimed at him, she turns the lights off giving him enough time to get to her.

Since they can't report the incident from the night before, Se-ri contacts her staff to make sure it doesn't leak. She also makes sure her night shift security team is fully replaced and learns that Cheol-gang got a job at her company using a fake ID. Jeong-hyeok learns that Cheol-gang got a job at Se-ri's Choice through the security subcontractor and because he harbored criminals in the past he's receiving their help. Behind the scenes, Cheol-gang was still sending updates to the Director of the Central Committee. He sent word that Jeong-hyeok is in South Korea and that he'll soon bring Se-ri to North America to reveal everything.

Se-ri contacts the family doctor to make a house call for Jeong-hyeok's knife injury. She asks the doctor to keep it a secret, but immediately after leaving he tells the second brother, Yoon Se-hyeong that there's a man there. Her brother and sister-in-law try to figure out who the mystery man could be.

After the incident at the broker meetup place where Jeong-hyeok was attacked and injured, Se-ri decides to take matters into her own hands. She purchases that building and tells the tenants that some men fluent in Chinese and Korean attacked a handsome man in this building recently. They deny any knowledge of the incident, but she gives them an incentive to figure it out. The person that brings conclusive evidence of the men that did it won't have to pay monthly rent and maintenance fees from now on. Also, whoever finds Cheol-gang will be rewarded heavily and the sooner the bigger the reward.

Se-ri always pays back in full whether it's for kindness or revenge. She finds her insurance person after seeing numerous footage of him in her building trying to prove she was alive. She was so thankful that he wanted her back alive more than anyone. Conveniently he just got fired, so she offers him three times his salary and plenty of incentives to work for her.

Gu Seung-jun calls Seo Dan to let her know there's been no electricity all day so his phone is dying, it's cold, and he's sick. She debates going to check on him since he might be lying but decides to bring some food to cook for him. She doesn't know how to cook, but he still eats the salty porridge happily. Seung-jun opens up to Seo Dan about his past, a story that would make anyone shed tears.

Seung-jun's father was conned by someone he trusted and lost his company. They had to emigrate to the UK with barely any money so sometimes they had porridge and just salt. His father passed away shortly after that and his mother remarried so he ended up at a boarding school. The people that ruined his family's business was Se-ri's family and that's why he wanted revenge. He aimed to be their son-in-law to infiltrate the enemy's camp but failed because Se-ri was too smart. However, her brothers were not as smart especially the greedy second brother.

Seung-jun thought he would be happy getting revenge but realized he doesn't feel that great. Someone once told him that the best revenge is being happy so maybe he should just return the stolen money and live happily without stress. Seo Dan angrily asks who told him that. He needs to recover and go back to South Korea to take revenge on Se-ri's family for what they did. She believes that if someone makes her cry she should make them bleed in tears for true revenge. With that, she downs a bottle of liquor.

Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok spend the night talking over some soju at her home. After they got a bit drunk, Jeong-hyeok wanted to take the opportunity to tell her something hoping she won't remember the next day. He honestly tells her that he wants to stay with her to marry her and have kids together. She said she likes girls and he adds he likes twins. He would also like to play the piano again and she encourages him. She even offered to organize a piano concert for him at the Seoul Arts Center. He ends the conversation with wanting to see her grow old with grey hair and wrinkles. She tells him he's very attractive drunk and to promise not to drink with other women.

Seung-jun wakes up the next morning to see Seo Dan sleeping right next to him hugging the liquor bottle. He blocks the sun from her face thinking to himself how reckless she is for sleeping so soundly next to a conman.

While getting ready for a large grand opening event for Se-ri's Choice, Se-ri notices the watch Jeong-hyeok was wearing. It was the watch he gave his brother in the past. She tells him that's the watch she tried to give him but lost it when she got kidnapped. He smiles and tells her she saved him without knowing it.

Master Sergeant Pyo Chi-su, First Lieutenant Park Kwang-beom, Private First Class Geum Eun-dong, Staff Sergeant Kim Ju-meok, and Jeong Man-bok from the rescue team come up with a plan to see Se-ri at the grand opening event. They show up dressed in what they consider South Korean men apparel. They repeatedly ask sales employees to meet the chairwoman. They notice the security staff and run out of the building thinking they're being chased. Private First Class Geum Eun-dong happened to leave his shoes behind and a security member was just trying to return his shoes. While running barefoot, he falls and Jeong-hyeok happens to notice a familiar face from the distance.

The recuse team men gather outside at a nearby bench as Master Sergeant Pyo tries to give Private First Class Geum Eun-dong his shoes so he doesn't hurt his feet in the winter cold. Captain Ri shows up with his pair of shoes as they all cry and hug him. He calls Se-ri to let her know. They all hug her and tell her they miss her. During their group huddle, Captain Ri gets a little jealous and breaks it up. Se-ri meets Man-bok for the first time although he already knows plenty about her.

Se-ri brings everyone back to her home where they run around in amusement. They can't believe she lives in such a large house by herself. The running water, warm floors, and endless amounts of electricity is fascinating. They spend the night grilling meat and catching up like the good old days.

Man-bok updates Captain Ri separately on their mission to bring him back immediately as soon as the Military World Games end. Jeong-hyeok tells him that he can't leave until he catches Cheol-gang. Man-bok tries to convince him that Se-ri will be safe due to her high social status. She happens to overhear the whole conversation.

The next day Se-ri tries to hold back her emotions by convincing Jeong-hyeok that if he suddenly had to vanish from now on, she won't be startled or hurt. He kept his end of the deal by staying put while he was recovering from his injury but now that he's healed he's good to go. While Se-ri is away at work, Jeong-hyeok and the rescue team leave.

Se-ri's parents discuss her disappearance. The wife asks Se-ri's father why he didn't tell her that Se-ri was in North Korea. He doesn't deny that she might've used the information to hurt his daughter. She lets him know that their second son, Yoon Se-hyeong knew about her and tried to keep her there. Se-ri's father remembers back to when Se-ri's assistant and insurance person reached out to him with the recording of Se-ri's voice. Se-hyeong was there and convinced him that it was fabricated.

Se-ri's mother goes to Se-ri's office to talk to her. She informs her that she will not let what Se-hyeong did to her slide. Se-ri doesn't believe there are any good intentions behind it and she must be doing it to help the oldest son Se-jun. Se-ri reminds her of the day she tried to abandon her. She was just a little girl when her so-called mother brought her to the beach and told her to wait there in the cold night while she goes to buy drinks. Se-ri sat there alone counting trying to stay awake as her mother never returns. The next morning a family finds her unconscious and gets her help. Se-ri tells her that after that day, she didn't understand why she was created to make her mother's life a living hell and that it would've been better to not be born. Se-ri tells her not to visit her on her birthday anymore, it's the worst.

Se-hyeong and his wife meet with Manager Oh and Cheol-gang. Manager Oh tells the three of them that they all have similar goals regarding Se-ri. Cheol-gang shares that he needs to bring Se-ri back with him to North Korea before getting rid of her. Se-hyeong wants her gone but not dead so he storms out of the meeting because Cheol-gang is a dangerous man and he doesn't want to be involved. Unfortunately, his wife is pure evil and offers to give Cheol-gang money to get rid of Se-ri.

Se-ri returns home after a long day. Her house is empty and dark when she walks in the door. She realizes that they all left and starts to breakdown crying. As she thinks back on what she said to Jeong-hyeok that morning, the loneliness sets in. Suddenly, the lights turn on and the men appear with birthday hats, gifts, and a cake. She cries more from embarrassment and leaves the room.

Jeong-hyeok follows her apologizing for startling her on her birthday. She explains that she was just scared and now she'll forever remember this good day every year. Se-ri tells him not to come near her because she doesn't want him to see her face since it's a mess. He walks up and hugs her from behind. Jeong-hyeok reveals that every year from now on will be good because he'll be thinking of her, how the person he loves is still breathing, and grateful she was born into this world.
